Here's my secret weapon for blocking ads. Ad Muncher is one of the most effective (and simple-to-use) ad and pop-up blocker I've ever used. Granted it costs money (with a 30-day trial), but it blocks most banner, Flash, floating, and text ads.
Blocks adds and popups in browsers and add-displaying programs.
